Console Support — Xbox and PlayStation enter the hospital
Updated:
A late-June 2026 update enabled console support for Animal Hospital, opening the experience to Xbox and PlayStation players for the first time and bringing controller-aware UI into the lobby.
Date note: this update did not ship with a precise studio-published date. Community trackers place it in the third week of June 2026; we use 2026-06-20 as the anchor.
What changed
Animal Hospital launched in May 2026 as a PC and mobile experience. The console enablement update flipped the experience's "supported platforms" flag on Roblox to include Xbox and PlayStation, and shipped a small wave of UI changes so the lobby, inventory, and minigames don't fall apart when the input device is a controller.
The change required platform compatibility certification on the Roblox side. The studio did not announce the certification date publicly — the support simply appeared once it cleared.
Devices now supported
After the update, Animal Hospital is playable on:
- Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One (via the Roblox client on those consoles)
- PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 (Roblox came to PlayStation in late 2025; Animal Hospital is one of the experiences that took the opportunity)
- All previously supported PC and mobile targets, unchanged
Cross-play between PC, mobile, and console is enabled. There is no per-platform server isolation — a shift roster can pull players from any combination of input devices.
Controller-aware UI
The most visible changes after the update are in screens that were originally designed for touch and mouse:
- The check-in window's drop-down patient log now supports D-pad navigation with clearly highlighted focus rings.
- The inventory grid added analog-stick scrolling and a controller bumper to jump between item categories.
- The skin selection screen, which had landed earlier in the month, picked up controller affordances at the same time.
- The minigame for the supply room shelves was reworked to take a hold-and-rotate input that works the same with mouse drag, touch drag, and analog stick.
Cross-play and matchmaking
The studio kept matchmaking simple. There are no console-only servers, and there is no platform filter when joining a shift. The patch notes did mention that voice-chat support varies per platform — that's a Roblox-platform constraint rather than an Animal Hospital one — and the in-game ping system was extended so coordination doesn't depend on voice.
For players coming from PC who had built muscle memory around the keyboard shortcuts for the emergency solver and the inventory hotkeys, nothing changed on PC. The console mappings are additive.
Performance considerations
Two performance items showed up in community reports after the update went live:
- Frame pacing on Xbox One and PS4. The older console targets run at a lower resolution than the current-gen ones. Frame rate is generally stable in the lobby but can dip in the Surgery room when multiple players trigger effects at the same time.
- Memory pressure during long sessions. On the older consoles, runs that hold across many back-to-back shifts can show memory creep. The studio acknowledged this and adjusted asset loading in a subsequent quiet patch.
Current-gen consoles run at the platform's normal Roblox cap and have not had performance reports outside of the broader Roblox-platform issues that affect every experience equally.
What this did not change
The patch was a platform-enablement and input-affordance update. It did not touch:
- The class roster (still the post-overhaul set)
- The anomaly roster (the Ghost anomaly arrives later)
- The item economy, the credit balance, or shift unlock requirements
- The state of the codes system — there is still no code redemption screen as of late June 2026; see /codes/
Known limits at console launch
- The text-entry overlay used in name fields on console is slower than the keyboard equivalent — long names take a noticeable beat to enter.
- Some accessibility colour options had to be re-paired with controller iconography; this is an ongoing polish item.
- Cross-platform voice and party invites still go through the host Roblox client, which means console players inviting PC friends use the Roblox social layer rather than an in-game friend system.
